LO2 Distribution of radio in the UK


For LO1 I had chosen the radio station Capital FM, which is distributed through out the whole of the UK. 

 Capital uses its traditional way of distribution through the the different Capital FM radio stations across the UK. Also, Capital FM is available to listen and tune in online, where it is also clear that it is a commercial radio station through its features of advertisements online as well on the website. This can also be accessed online from any smartphone or using the 'Capital FM' app, which allows uses to be updated/notified and listen on their smartphone.

This clearly presents the technological convergence Capital has used from creating a traditional radio product while also distributing it online and on apps. This allows Capital to suit/ cater to its younger audience as it is more easier and accessible to them especially due to a large amount of Capital's listeners being digital natives.















Here you can see the Capital FM app which is available on the 'Google Play Store' and the 'App Store'.
This is great for the target audience as it allows the radio show to be easily accessible for its audience such as on their way to school, uni, work etc. Capital is a click away.

Style and Content

Our radio station will be a magazine show including common content a magazine show.

Presenters

Presenting our radio show will be Me, Shauna and Evie. Including a male voice/ presenter will allow us have a wider/ varied listeners tuning in. For our male presenter we will have Joey this will also portrays the gender variation we aimed to have. Our presenters will have Yorkshire dialect and casual informal talk/ elaborate coding this will make it relatable especially towards. our South Yorkshire listeners the listeners form different regions may not understand.

We have chosen to name our radio show One20 FM. This is related to the bus 120 which is the bus number which travels through Sheffields main parts.This allows our radio show to be clearly targeted at out Sheffield audience.

These are the songs we have chosen due to them still including trending music and throwback/ old school songs.

Features

Our radio show will inclue competiotins related and targeted to our audience such as winning ticket. Also, competiotions for over 18s will be featured in the show such as nights out, drinks etc. This will attract more listeners from the ages of 16- 24. We will also feature confession call ins, allowing listeners to ring in with problems, secrets etc. Another featyure will be song request as most of our songs played are suggetions from our listeners making the radio show even more connected with the audience. This is easily done as our target audience are owners of smartphones/tech.


Advertisements


The advertisements featured on our radio show will be targeted specifically at our audience such as car insurance this is because our target audience includes alot of new young drivers and an advertisement on car insurance is something they will need or ar looking for. University open days will also be an advertisement featured as our target audience are in the ages of starting university or in university. This will be featured as a sponsership.Clothes/ online shopping websites is also great advertisment for our show as theyre will be more female listeners than males at 75% of female listeners. Our target spends alot of time and money on shopping other web pages such as BooHoo, Nastygal etc will be featured. Our target audience spends alot of money on food due to food/ restaurantsbeing part of their social life, Work, School, Dates etc. Online food delivery pages such as just eat will atract my target audience and also restaurant. Deals on food and clothes will also gain more listeners.

Our theme for the radio show is confessions and best one wins a night out.


Genre

Our radio programme will be a magazine talkshow radio show scheduled to air at 7pm until 10pm. The talkshow will fit the time scheduled to air as its narrative will be. Such as presenters saying things such as have a 'good night' or night weather forecast and news. Also, the talkshow being schedule at eveneing time alows us to talk about thing which may be rude/innapropriate/ explicit for a brakfast radio show.

LO3: Codes and Conventions of Genre of planned show

The genre of our radio show is an magazine talk show.

Adverts


We have featured advertisements as part of my radio show this is due to our radio show being a commercial radio show which means it is funded by advertisements and sponsors. This is something I noticed on many different commercial radio shows are features of breaks for advertisements. We have featured advertisements in our show. The adverts relate and are targeted at our specific audience and are products/ adverts they are interested in such as car insurance as our target audience are potentially young drivers and also university advertisements as our audience are also potential students.


Jingles

We have featured multiple jingles through out our radio show to ensure the listeners are familiar to our radio show and it also create a sort of 'brand' for our radio show. Sheffield Live's jingle is also featured in this as this is stated out in the brief due to ONE 20 FM being part of Sheffield Live. The jingles are short, exciting and upbeat as this is common in all jungles in radio shows. 


Presenters


We featured presenters in our radio show as this is a common and main conventions of a radio show. The dialogue in our radio show between the presenters is very informal and casual, while the mode of address is peer to peer. This is well suited to our target audience as the presenters are not informal just like the listeners. 
Also, the presenters speak in a 'Yorkshire Accent' this is suited towards our target audience as they also speak in that accent , which makes the radio show relate much more and connects with the listeners. This also shows how it is a local radio show.


Content

The content featured on our radio show is content such as;

News- This is featured in our radio show as it is a common conventions to update listeners on what is happening around the world. However, our radio show is a local radio show so we decided to feature news related to Sheffield and neighbouring areas. News such as road works, Crime etc. will be featured.

Music- We have featured music as this is our main feature in our radio show. It is also relate to our jingle 'playing you the hits', which clearly presents what our radio show is about.

Competitions- We featured competitions as part of our radio show this was to keep your target audience excited and much more interested in out radio show. We have created competitions to feature that are relatable and appealing towards our intend target audience.Looking at my LO1 analysis of Capital FM competitions and the constant mentioning of competitors were featured in the radio show. 

Call Ins- We have featured a ' Call In' segment as part of our radio show to entertain our listeners. This is where listeners call in with confessions and music suggestions. This will is great as it will keep our listeners much more entertained and connected with the radio show as the listeners are also part of this. This is also entertaining for our target audience. Listening to other radio shows, I have listened to the features of call ins for music suggestion.


Adverts- We have included an advertisement break as this will contribute in funding the commercial radio station as well. The advertisements were featured in-between breaks, several at a time. This was common in existing radio shows such as Capital where they feature breaks with advertisements due to them also being a commercial radio show. 


Music

Music featured in our radio show is targeted at our audience through playing music related to our target audience. Such as trending music/ charts, Pop, RnB, Hip-Hop/Rap etc. This is due to our target audience music tastes featuring the sort of genres/ songs. The music featured was songs such as Drakes 'God's Plan' as this is what we discovered our target audience are interested in listening to. Also, it is trendy and part of the charts, which keeps our music unto date and new material.
